The Cedar Waxwings are here today in flock, eating the blue berries from their namesake, the Eastern Red Cedar trees. These elegant birds are beautiful to behold, with the mix of green, bluish gray, yellow, and a spot of red on their wings and a black mask across their eyes, but I find them difficult to photograph because they just won't sit STILL, and they are here one moment, gone the next! This is the only time of the year when we are blessed with their presence, when the berries on the cedars must be at their yummiest. Occasionally we see one in the summer.
Oh I hope to see a Waxwing someday, Aleta. I've never seen one other than in pictures.

I rarely see Cedar Waxwings here in the Adirondacks of northern NY, but they do visit occasionally. I've never been able to get a picture of them. I've been reading back on your blog and especially enjoyed your hike to the top of your ridge. I miss walking in the woods this winter.

ReplyDeleteNo, we haven't named the falls; we'll discuss it with the owners the next time they come up! They don't live around here year-round, but that waterfall definitely needs to be named! Perhaps Turtle Shell Falls because the section where the falls flow over the caves resembles a turtle shell!
Hi, Cedar - Thanks for stopping by! We enjoy walking in the woods but would gladly give up walking to be able to CROSS COUNTRY SKI in the woods! When we first moved here, we had a couple of inches of snow and I went down in our pasture and skied, but by the time I got to the other end of the pasture, the snow had melted and I fell flat on my face! That's just the way it goes.
